Discover if removable dentures are right for you with our helpful guide below.
What Are Removable Full Dentures?
While implant-retained dentures are known for their permanence, removable dentures – also known as snap-in dentures – provide durability when you need it, and convenience for cleaning and maintenance. Removable dentures are great for patients missing all of their teeth due to an injury or health condition.
As a reliable alternative to traditional dentures, removable dentures are supported by dental implants, so they won’t slip or slide around in your mouth while you’re eating, speaking, and laughing.
Benefits of Removable Full Dentures
Removable dentures offer maximum comfort and freedom while remaining sturdy and attractive. Some of the benefits of snap-in dentures include:
- No food restrictions
- Speak without hesitation
- Enjoy a comfortable, customized fit
- A reliable, sturdy denture
- Increased confidence
- Easy removal for cleaning and maintenance
- Preservation of the jawbone
The Removable Full Dentures Process
The first step of restoring your smile includes an initial consultation with Dr. Hobbs at our Longview dental office. During this appointment, he’ll listen to your smile goals and evaluate the condition of your mouth to determine if removable dentures are right for you.
Once you both decide that removable dentures are the perfect solution for your unique situation, you’ll schedule an appointment to place your dental implants. Dr. Hobbs will surgically place the implants that will support your denture prosthetic. Your smile typically takes two to three months to adjust to the implants.
When you’ve completely healed, Dr. Hobbs will attach your beautiful, removable denture, and you’ll leave our office ready to show off your smile once again.
Caring for Your New Restoration
No matter what type of denture restoration you choose, the key to maintaining your denture is proper care. If your snap-in dentures haven’t been screwed into place, it’s essential that you brush your gums, tongue, and the roof of your mouth every day with a soft-bristled toothbrush prior to wearing them. Rinse your dentures as well before brushing to remove any loose food and debris.
A soft-bristled toothbrush should also be used with a nonabrasive cleaner to eliminate particles from the surface of your snap-in dentures. When you’re not wearing your dentures, they should be placed in water in a safe area until they’re used again.
Frequently Asked Questions
What should I expect when being fitted for dentures?
Your gums must be prepared first before getting fitted for a new set of dentures. If you need one or more teeth extracted, the process could take longer as you must wait for your gums to fully heal. Dr. Hobbs will take impressions of your gums and the supporting bone beneath. These impressions are used to create your removable dentures in a dental laboratory.
Once your dentures have arrived at our Longview office, you’ll come back for another appointment. Dr. Hobbs will make any necessary adjustments to ensure the fit is comfortable for your bite.
Am I a candidate for removable dentures?
Ideal candidates for removable dentures are patients missing multiple teeth who are in good standing oral health. The best way to determine if you’re eligible for removable full dentures is to schedule an appointment with Dr. Hobbs.
During this appointment, Dr. Hobbs will examine your oral health and discuss your tooth prosthetic options. This is a great time to ask any questions or voice any concerns you may have. To schedule an appointment, call our Longview office at (903) 309-2142.
